Gruesome and cynical, yet amazing.
An author is held hostage my a woman who is obsessed with him and his books. He gets in a car accident and his legs are shattered so she takes him to her house to "take care of him". She is not happy with the ending he gave his final book. The main character Misery dies and she wants her alive and so she forces him to write another book bringing her back to life. She gives him drugs and once he gets remotely better she buys him a typewriter so he can begin.
A grusome novel about a crazy lady with intent. When people realize that he is missing and cops come looking for him, she kills the cop by running over his head with the lawn mower. The author realizes he is in trouble and tries escaping many times.
She cuts off his foot. She locks him in the basement. She forces him to take the drugs that he no longer wants.
In the end he tries to kill her and fails, but she gets caught and put in a institution. He is completely traumatized by the events that took place. He knows she is locked away but he still thinks she is everywhere.
He would never live in peace after that experience.
If you like Stephen King, you should definately read this and if you like grusome novels with a lot of details you also should.
