10 years later...
The story picks up 10 years later, allowing for a more cohesive and believable plot. Gould does a great job of providing a nice twist right at the beginning, which segues into an oscillating plotline of suspense and discovery. Reflex is as much Millie's story, as it is Davie's and the tension that is created in the process is pitch perfect, and also creates a wealth of character development. The cloud of mystery involving Davie's abduction and just who is at the center of the betrayal and how they are related to the NSA, gives the story focus. The arrival of new characters (the bad guys) who are evil but also complex, makes the story intriguing. I also enjoyed the exploration of Davie's powers and his discovery of "twinning", which plays a pivotal role. The ending serves the story, but also opens up more questions, which hopefully means Davie and Millie's story isn't completely over. If you've read Jumper and found it an ok read, Reflex is the pay off you were probably looking for. Check it out.
