That's a great list!
I would also add:
Clemency Pogue: Fairy Killer by J.T. Petty
Digory the Dragon Slayer by Angela McCallister
A Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula LeGuin
Dragonsong by Anne McCaffrey
Dragon Rider by Cornelia Funke
Eragon by Christopher Paolini
The Golden Compass by Phillip Pullman
The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle
Also see the work of Diane Duane, though I haven't gotten around to it yet. See also T.A. Barron, Lloyd Alexander and Bruce Coville.

Oops, I didn't mean to live of the His Dark Materials Triology. But since this list was all series, that's why the rest wouldn't have been here, even though I did read Dragon Rider and liked it a lot. I also like Bruce Coville.

What about William Nicholson's The Wind on Fire trilogy? I'm not naturally drawn to fantasy but I read and loved all three. Philip Reeve's Mortal Engines is excellent, it is the first book in a series. I've just started Garth Nix's Sabriel and i'm pretty sure i'll be enjoying that.

Jaemi says:
I tried the Dark is Rising once and I couldn't seem to get into it. I'll have to look at it again. Have to look up Wind on Fire too. The Abhorsen Trilogy was definitely good; Sabriel should definitely please. I'm psyched because I just got ahold of Lady Friday--latest in Nix's Keys to the Kingdom series.

Here are a few more series I encountered:
The Ranger's Apprentice by Flanagan
The Underland Chronicles by Collins
The Great Tree of Avalon by Barron
Pendragon by MacHale
Farsala by Bell
Young Wizards by Duane
Abarat by Barker
The Last Apprentice by Delaney
The Land of Elyon by Carman

I would personally recommend Gene Wolfe's magnum opus Book of the New Sun series. It offers an extremely seductive ancient world couple with an ingenious plot. Also the story has an unreliable narrator that allows for multiple interpretations of the story.
